Japan, South Korea, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Norway, Iceland And More Travelers Boost China’s Tourism with Over Twenty Million Visa Free Arrivals in 2024

China witnessed an extraordinary surge in visa-free visitors in 2024, welcoming over 20.11 million international travelers who entered without requiring a visa. This increase reflects China’s proactive measures to stimulate tourism and simplify access for global business travelers.

To foster international tourism and business exchanges, China has implemented streamlined entry procedures. National immigration data indicates that international inbound and outbound travel reached 64.882 million in 2024, marking a substantial 82.9 percent increase compared to the prior year. This remarkable growth highlights China’s growing attractiveness as a leading travel and business destination.

In 2024, China significantly expanded its visa-free entry policy, allowing citizens from more countries to visit without the need for a visa. In November, the government announced an updated list of nations eligible for visa-free travel, aiming to enhance international connections and promote economic collaboration.

Starting from November 30, 2024, citizens from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Estonia, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro, Malta, Latvia, and Japan can visit China visa-free until December 31, 2025. Additionally, travelers from Denmark, Norway, South Korea, Slovakia, Finland, Andorra, Iceland, Monaco, and Liechtenstein were also granted visa-free access under the revised policy.

The strategic policy update led to a remarkable increase in visa-free visits. In 2024, China recorded over 20.11 million visa-free entries, reflecting an impressive 112.3 percent growth compared to the previous year. This surge highlights the success of China’s expanded visa policies in attracting international tourists and business visitors.

China’s continuous expansion of its visa-free policy reinforces its position as a global tourism hub and a dynamic business destination. With the growing list of visa-exempt countries, China is poised to welcome even more international travelers in the coming years, boosting its tourism industry and strengthening global business ties.
