In a groundbreaking move set to reshape the Indian aviation landscape, Akasa Air has forged a strategic alliance with Adani Airports Holdings Limited (AAHL) to commence commercial flight operations at the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) by August 2025. This partnership represents a bold leap for Akasa Air as it continues its rapid expansion across both domestic and international markets, with a clear vision to transform air travel in India.

Starting with 15 daily flights, Akasa’s entry into NMIA will mark the beginning of a much-anticipated surge in connectivity. The airline plans to quickly scale its operations, ultimately offering over 300 domestic and 50 international weekly departures by winter 2025. This ambitious expansion is designed to meet growing demand and position Akasa Air as a dominant low-cost carrier in India and beyond, taking full advantage of the strategic location of NMIA.

Although the precise opening date of NMIA operations remains pending, this partnership underscores the airport’s central role in the future of aviation in India. In its initial phase, Akasa Air will offer 15 daily flights from NMIA. The airline will gradually expand its offerings, eventually reaching a remarkable 300 weekly domestic and 50 international departures, tapping into key regions of West Asia and Southeast Asia. As NMIA continues to receive necessary approvals and regulatory clearances, Akasa Air will begin ticket sales for the new routes and may introduce fresh destinations in the future.

While Akasa has not yet disclosed if operating from NMIA will entail higher costs compared to Mumbai’s current Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the move to the new, state-of-the-art facility is expected to offer significant operational benefits in the long run.
